Writer’s Block
Many beginning writers suffer from writers block, and sometimes experienced writers do too. Writers block can come in various forms. Some could be physical such as an inability to access your computer (See photo!) but mostly they are emotional or mental. Often beginning writers feel that they can only write when they feel inspired or the mood is right. However, professional writers do not have the luxury of waiting for this to happen.
The best way to overcome writers block and eventually prevent it is very easy, but takes time and practice. Every day, set aside about fifteen minutes to write. It does not matter what you write - but write. Compose something different each day. You can write about the weather, how you feel, even about how you cannot write! Be sure to write during a quiet time. Writing while there is activity going on will not teach you to focus, no matter how good you are at blocking the activity.
Once you get into the habit of writing everyday, you can give yourself assignments and write about a topic of your choosing. This will help you develop the discipline to write what you need to write, rather than what you feel like writing.
The technical aspect of writing, grammar, sentence structure, spelling, form, etc. are not important for this exercise. What is important is to get your ideas on paper.
Happy writing!
